France May Set [Official] Age of Sexual Consent to 15

Amanda Arnold reported for New York Magazine's "The Cut" that "France Is Finally Setting an Age of Consent":

On Tuesday, the country announced that it would finally set the [official] age of sexual consent [...] at 15.

I inserted the word official, because France does have an [unofficial age of consent]. Arnold wrote:

While current law criminalizes sexual relations with a minor under the age of 15, these cases are typically prosecuted as an offense that carries lighter penalties. In order to bring more serious charges of rape, prosecutors have to prove that violence, force, surprise, or coercion were involved, even in cases where the victim was as young as 11 years old.

Psychologist Muriel Salmona related that the dark side of the allure of nymphets is problematic in Europe - especially in France:

“The figures on violence against children are bad for most of Europe,” psychologist Muriel Salmona told the BBC. “But in France there is a current that tolerates sexual violence against children.”

Arnold reported that, in 2018, there was an attempt at setting an [official] French age of consent, but it was (unsurprisingly) blocked by men's groups:

In March 2018, the country introduced a package of laws intended to combat the prevalence of misconduct, which included fines for sexual harassment and set the country’s age of consent to 15. However, following pressure from men’s groups, the age-of-consent law was scrapped after a government report concluded it would result in “an assumption of guilt.”

Lastly, in recents weeks, protests have erupted in France. The protests were prompted by a case involving "Julie" who between the ages of 13 and 15 periodically had "group sex" with French firefighters whom stated the the age-gap group sex was consensual:

Cries intensified further in recent weeks, as France’s highest court prepares to hear a high-profile case involving a woman who says she was repeatedly raped by 20 firefighters over a two-year period, when she was between the ages of 13 and 15. (The woman, who has been dubbed “Julie” by the French media, is now 25.) Three of the firemen said they did in fact have sex with Julie when she was a minor, two of whom admitted to having “group sex” while on duty, though they argue that relations were consensual. 

France to Increase Age-of-Consent to 15

Jason Rezaian of the Washington Post reported that France plans to increase the age-of-consent to 15 after two men were not charged with rape after having consensual sex with two 11-year-old nymphets. Rezaian reported:

"A French court acquitted a 30-year-old man of rape in November, concluding that the 11-year-old girl had not experienced “constraint, threat, violence or surprise” during the sex act, which is how France had previously defined rape."

"In a similar case, a 28-year-old man was charged with sex with a minor, because it was concluded that the victim was not physically forced to have sex. That girl also was 11."

The BBC reported that France: "[...] had been discussing whether to set the age as 13 or 15, which is what groups fighting violence against children had campaigned for."

The BBC listed the age-of-consent for various European countries:

King Louis XV: The Jeffrey Epstein of the 18th century? | Parc-aux-Cerfs' Virgins & Sex

We first, indirectly, learned about King Louis XV's (open) nympholepsy via Vladimir Nabokov but not Nabokov's Lolita but Nabokov's Ada, or Ardor: A Family Chronicle. Nabokov wrote:

“Of the many ancestors along the wall, she pointed out her favorite, old Prince Vseslav Zemski (1699-1797), friend of Linnaeus and author of Flora Ladorica, who was portrayed in rich oil holding his barely pubescent bride and her blond doll in his satin lap.”

Brian Boyd annotated on Ada Online that the bride being referred to is Princess Sofia Temnosiniy and per Ada’s family tree, Princess Sofia Temnosiniy was approximately 14-years-old when she married 72-one-year-old Prince Zemski.

In addition, the Prince’s son, Peter Zemski, married Mary O’Reilly. Boyd wrote: 

“John Rea [NABOKV-L, 30 November 2004] suggests that Mary O’Reilly may also echo Mary Louise O’Murphy (or Marie-Louise or Louison Morfy or O’Morphy, 1737-1814), who became mistress to Louis XVI of France [...]. She is said both to have been [Giacomo] Casanova’s mistress first, or to have been noticed by him, and to have been at fifteen the model for [François] Boucher’s famous painting, Girl Reclining [...].”

Casanova shared in Histoire de ma vie that when he spied 13-year-old O’Murphy in the nude, he found her so alluring that he commissioned a nude portrait of the nymphet. 

It’s not clear how King Louis XV discovered O’Murphy. One theory he that he saw Casanova's commission and requested to see the original. Another theory is that she was recruited by Madame de Pompadour - the king’s official chief mistress. Reportedly, King Louis XV impregnated O’Murphy, but she had a miscarriage at 15 but gave birth at 16 to the king’s illegitimate child.

And per Nancy Goldstone's AirMail post "The View from Here: It wasn’t all cake and Versailles for Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France…" (September 18, 2021), O’Murphy wasn't the only nymphet King Louis XV procured, because he kept a brothel, Parc-aux-Cerfs, of nymphets. So much so that Goldstone dubbed King Louis XV the possible Jeffrey Epstein of the 18th century:

While we are on the subject of who might actually have been responsible for the abject poverty and unrelenting misery that would eventually explode into the French Revolution (and who has to date gotten off scot-free from any blame for the deplorable conditions under which the general population labored), may I just make a small, quick case for the repellent Louis XV, the Jeffrey Epstein of the 18th century?

For nearly 50 years prior to Marie Antoinette’s arrival, Louis XV reigned over France and, during that time, pursued a corrupt, predatory, entitled, and contemptuous agenda. Government bored Louis. He spent his days hunting and spending lavishly on ostentatious entertainments, luxury goods, and sex. (He conveniently kept a brothel called Parc-aux-Cerfs, which specialized in young women, on the palace grounds.) Aristocratic privilege flourished during his rule, and the gap between the wealthiest 1 percent (who paid no taxes) and everyone else grew.

Geri Walton elaborated on Parc-aux-Cerfs in the post "Parc-aux-Cerfs and Tales of Louis XV’s Harem" where she wrote that, in addition to O’Murphy, Madame de Pompadour procured a bevy of beautiful virgins for the the king:

[...] organized a constant stream of very young beauties to entertain the bored King in his bedroom. The beauties were housed at a small house in Parc-aux-Cerfs purchased in 1755 by the King. This house was later described by some people as a seraglio. The King did not visit the beauties at the little house but rather had them escorted discretely to and from the palace when he requested a rendezvous, and, from all accounts, most people at the time had no idea anything inappropriate was happening.

The bevy of beauties that Madame de Pompadour supplied and supervised were low-class but supposedly virginal women. 

In addition, Goldstone wrote that 60-year-old Louis XV attempted to seduce 14-year-old Marie Antoinette:

When [14-year-old] Marie Antoinette first arrived, Louis XV kept showing up at her private apartment first thing in the morning, angling to get into her bedroom, and often pulled her onto his lap, demanding a kiss, until she figured out how to avoid him.

Incidentally, King Louis XV reminded me of Emperor Augustus whom I wrote about in The Allure of Nymphets due to his passion for deflowering virgins:

Matt Ridley related in the New York Times Notable Book The Red Queen that, Augustus, the first emperor of the Roman Empire from 27 BC to 14 AD, had “a passion for deflowering girls” and according to Roman historian Suetonius, the virgins were procured by Augustus’ wife. 

France Gall's “Les Sucettes": A French Teen Oral Sex Song

In 1966, Serge Gainsbourg, the controversial French songwriter, poet, artist, actor and director, wrote “Les Sucettes [English: Lollipops] for 18-year-old blonde songstress France Gall. 

The song is about Anna, a young girl who was in paradise every time that “stick slides down her throat”. 

Gall emphatically claimed, even after shooting the video, that she was mortified because, she didn't know that the song, which on the surface appeared to be a children's song, was about oral sex. 

Per “Les Sucettes'" Wikipedia page:

"Les Sucettes" is, on the surface, a yé-yé-style song about a girl named Annie who likes aniseed-flavoured lollipops; much of the lyrical content plays up the homonyms of "Annie" and "anis" (aniseed).

But Gainsbourg's lyric also contains playful double meanings referring to oral sex, such as a line about barley sugar running down Annie's throat. The very noun for lollypop in French, "sucette", is the substantivised verb "sucer", sucking – so that the title and the refrain ("Annie aime les sucettes", Annie loves lollypops) are far more evocative in French than in the English translation. A possible translation to preserve the innuendo would be "Annie loves suckers". 

The song also features a direct double entendre, stating that Annie has lollipops "pour quelques pennies" (for a few pennies), which can also be heard as "pour quelques pénis" (for a few penises).

I'm shocked that the phallic, approximately twelve-inch long, lollipop that Gall sucked on in the video wasn't a dead giveaway about the salacious nature the song. But unsurprisingly, “Les Sucettes” was teen Gall's biggest hit.

Famous Ephebophile: Gabriel Matzneff | Tales of Vanessa Springora & French Schoolgirls

Angelique Chrisafis wrote in The Guardian article "French publishing boss claims she was groomed at age 14 by acclaimed author":

The French literary world is in shock after a leading publishing director, Vanessa Springora, alleged in a new book [Le Consentement (Consent)] that she was groomed into a damaging relationship from the age of 14 with an acclaimed author who was 50.

Springora, 47, the head of the Julliard publishing house, claims that in the 1980s she met the author Gabriel Matzneff at a dinner with her mother when she was 13 and he was 50.

So, how did the famous award winning French author allegedly "groom" the nymphet:

He pursued her with letters and followed her in the street, and she began a relationship with him when she was 14, according to the book.

Springora claims Matzneff would wait for her outside her school and at one point moved into a hotel with her to avoid a visit to his flat from the police, who had received anonymous letters warning of an underage relationship.

And what was the immediate result of the author's seduction of the nymphet: "[...] she ended up skipping school and falling under his control."

Matzneff's nympholepsy was (openly) condoned by some in French literary society, and he openly expressed the allure of nymphets on French talk shows. For example, Matzneff shared on “Apostrophes” (March 2, 1990):

I have never had any success with women 25, 30 and over [...] A very young girl is kinder [For example] Marie-Elizabeth, I knew her when she was 15 years old.

Matzneff wrote in Mes amours décomposés about the conquest in three consecutive days of three strangers - two of whom were virgins: Mari-Agnes, Aude and Brigitte S. with whom he made love to almost sans interruption.

The Canadian writer Denise Bombardier, who is no fan of Matzneff, admitted on the show that "little girls" can be attracted to writers and that Matzneff's "reputation" was attractive :

Monsieur Matzneff tells us that he sodomizes little girls aged 14 and 15. [And] that these little girls are crazy about him. We know that little girls can be crazy about a man who has a certain literary aura. Besides, we know that old men attract infants with candy. [But] Mr. Matzneff attracts them with his reputation.

Matzneff defended himself by stating that the age-gap sexual encounters in the book were consensual, that he is the opposite of a "macho", and that he didn't force anyone nymphet to do anything.

Interestingly, Chrisafis reminded the readers: "In France, a child under 15 is considered a sexual minor but they can still be considered able to give their consent." Thus, per Orthodox Jews and Muslims, Matzneff's crime was actually fornication. And since, allegedly the sex was consensual, the post-pubescent nymphets would be guilty of fornication as well. 

Erin Zaleski reiterated in The Daily Beast article "Outing the French Literary World’s Jeffrey Epstein" (Jan. 19, 2020):

Matzneff] was venerated in literary and media circles alike, often appearing as a guest on prestigious talk shows, where, positioning himself as a sort of literary libertine, he would boast on air about his affinity for young teens.

Like former Congresswoman Katie Hill, Springora previously considered her relationship with Matzneff to be consensual, but despite the fact that the age of consent in France is 15, that stance changed with the publication of Le Consentement (Consent) which per Zaleski: "[...] quickly sold out at many Paris bookstores, as well as on Amazon."

DADDY: A PLAY | A French Teen (Virtual) Sex Worker?

Here's (part of) the synopsis for Marion Siéfert's intriguingly named Daddy:

From her very first shows, Marion Siéfert has staged childhood, not to soften us but to make her demands and her revolt against the world of adults heard [...]

This time, the heroine of her new show is thirteen years old. She lives in the provinces, in a family where money problems are daily, suffocating. So she dreams of leading the life of the stars and influencers she sees spread out on the networks. 

She escapes by playing video games, these role plays where dozens of players meet online. The avatar she chose for herself falls on that of an older man, who drags her into another game, Daddy. He fills her with skills (the winnings or gifts specific to these games), on condition that she submits herself to increasingly troubled trials...

On the Daddy stage, real life fades away in favor of a digital reality where everything can be bought and changed.

As the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe is not in New York, we did not see Daddy; so, let's rely on Laura Cappelle's New York Times review "Daddy Review: Deeper Into the Internet’s Darkest Corners" (May 11, 2023)

Cappelle wrote that Daddy was a "sharp" [age-gap] play that took place in the "internet’s dark corners", but that Mara, the play's nymphet ,was "groomed" and exploited for profit. 

With “Daddy,” a sharp, no-holds-barred new production [...] Marion Siéfert has ventured even further into the internet’s dark corners. In it, a 13-year-old is groomed online by an older man [27-year-old Julien] and gets lost in a virtual reality game that exploits teenage girls for profit.

[Note: Without seeing the play, one may be wary of Cappelle's grooming accusation, because in Emma Cline's Daddy, one may allege that 16-year-old Alice was groomed into selling her panties to men, but an 18-year-old Alice would have been, à la Sami Sheen, a (teen) sex worker.]

Cappelle went on to share that Mara (15-year-old Lila Houel), a quite nymphet, lived in southern France and played online games as an escape, which is how she met Julien, but interestingly, Cappelle wrote that Julien was Mara's "online partner in crime" and that the age-gap couple gamers had an "easy intimacy".

Reality is no match for screen entertainment in “Daddy.” The central character, Mara, is a quiet teenager from southern France [...] [who] whenever she can, Mara escapes to the brighter landscape of online gaming.

In an unnamed video game, she joins Julien, a smooth-talking 27-year-old who is her frequent online partner in crime. The easy intimacy they have built is showcased through a spectacular video sequence: On a screen the size of the Odéon’s stage, we see a 3-D game designed by the video artist Antoine Briot in which Mara and Julien’s avatars who shoot at enemies with assault rifles before hopping on fluorescent skateboards.

Intriguingly, in addition to being a smooth talker, Cappelle described Julien as "clean-cut, in control [i.e., powerful], smoothly scary". In other words, per Olivia Fox Cabane's The Charisma Myth, Julien was charismatic and attractive. Yet, Cappelle implied that Julien groomed Mara with compliments, whom consequently lost her free will and was forced to: "[...] perform routines that earn them points with fans."

The groundwork is laid for the abusive dynamic that ensues. When they first meet outside the game, on a video call, Mara confides in Julien that she dreams of being an actress. He compliments her, and tells her about “Daddy” — a new game that allows players, Julien says, to become avatars sponsored by sugar daddies, and showcase their talents to a “fan base.” 

In the end, despite the plays focus "on the dynamics of child abuse, and the erosion of Mara’s individuality and willpower by Julien." And the: "[...] scenes of verbal and physical violence [...]", Marion Siéfert's Daddy was a New York Times Critic's Pick. 

Le témoin (1978): Sexually Active French Nymphets [Teens] Models

Here's Morrison's IMDB plot summary of Le témoin (1978) [English: The Witness, Italian: Il testimone]:

Invited to renovate works of art, Antonio Berti leaves Italy for France. Arriving in France, Berti meets businessman Robert Maurisson [...] Deciding that "remaking" the paintings is the best option, the guys get a young girl called Cathy Massys to model [...] Showing herself to be sexually active well beyond her years, Massys starts having sex with Maurisson. Attempting to keep Maurisson's events quiet, Berti runs into trouble, when Massys is found dead.

As it relates to Cathy (Sandra Dobrigna) being "sexually active well beyond her years", the following dialogue took place between Antonio and Nathalie (Sophie Lautman), a nymphet model whom desired to replace Cathy:

Antonio: She hasn't gone home?! Where has she gone?

Nathalie: Well, she must have found herself a new lover. She once told me: "If I want this old pig, I'll drive him nuts!"

Antonio: Goodness! Listen to these little girls! How can they sing like angels, when they are devils?!

In addition, Morrison wrote: 

Openly showing the [young] girls topless, Mocky & cinematographer Sergio D'Offizi give the movie an unexpected cheeky comedic charm [...]

I was unable to find Sandra Dobrigna or Sophie Lautman's ages, but they appear to be true nymphets, which made their topless scenes "unexpected" to say the least. 

Lastly, Antonio's proclamation that the nymphets weren't' innocent "angles" but  "devils" is revealing especially when coupled with his statement, "And then they say it's us that [seduce nymphets]," which was said after Nathalie showed Antonio' her fountains; so, Antonio could see that, unlike Cathy, she didn't have "small breast, like nuts".

Famous Ephebophile: Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski & Samantha Geimer

I wrote in The Allure of Nymphets that Academy Award nominated film director Roman Polanski gave drugs to thirteen-year-old Samantha Geimer before he raped and sodomized her, that Polanski fled the United States to France in 1978 to avoid going to jail, and that he has avoided extradition by not visiting any countries that may have been sympathetic to America.

What I wrote is true, but in fairness to Polanski it needs to be explained in more detail. I’ll do that by summarizing James Fox’s ‘Roman ‘Holiday’” article that was featured in last month’s Vanity Fair (October 13, 2013):

In 1977, despite feeling that it was consensual and that Geimer was responsive, Polanski pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a minor and for his punishment he was sent to a California institution by Judge Laurence J. Rittenband for a 90-day evaluation. 42 days later, Polanski’s psychiatric report recommended that he be released with time served.

[So, contrary to popular belief, Polanski did not flee the country to escape imprisonment. He fled the country after he confessed and was evaluated, which was enough for Geimer’s family to drop the charges of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under 14, rape by use of drugs, perversion, and sodomy among others charges.]

As a matter of fact, Geimer stated to director Marina Zenovich for her documentary Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out (2012) that Polanski was not a “molester”, “pedophile” or “child rapist.” And despite the fact that Polanski drugged and sodomized her when she was a 13-year-old, she stated in 2011 on an episode of Good Morning America that the judges, “[…]caused way more damage to me and my family than anything Roman Polanski has ever done.”

[Typically, Samantha didn't tell the police or her mother what happened between her and Polanski. She told her boyfriend, but her sister overheard the conversation and told their mother who was advised to call the police.]

The real reason Polanski fled the country was because he was informed that untrustworthy Judge Rittenband planned to have Polanski undergo an additional “evaluation” that could last up to 50 years. Subsequently, French-born Polanski fled to France where he would be exempt from extradition; however, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

After Polanski returned to Europe, not only did he make another movie, Tess, which won three Oscars, he began a relationship with Nastassja Kinski, the 15-year-old star of the movie.

No effort was made to arrest Polanski for 30 years after he returned to Europe until he landed in Switzerland to attend a film festival on September 26, 2009; however, after being detained for almost ten months, on July 12, 2010, the Swiss government refused to extradite Polanski to the U.S. and freed him, because the U.S. government could not prove to the Swiss that Polanski hadn't already served his sentence for the crime.

Lastly, Polanski, who is an unabashed ephebophile, was also accused of molesting 16-year-old Charlotte Lewis, who had a role in Polanski’s Pirates (1986), but no charges were filed.

Per Alan Dershowitz: Statutory Rape IS an Outdated Concept

We've shared previously that, per the New York Magazine cover story "Childhood in New York City", the term "[...] child" is a label, not a reality."

And we related from Mary E. Odem's Delinquent Daughters that it was widely believed by feminists and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) that before the 19th century and up until the early 20th century a girl’s “sexual purity” could only be taken unwillingly through physical and/or mental seduction. 

Furthermore, the notion was denied that nymphets had sexual desires. Therefore, feminists blamed “dirty old men” for the promiscuous behavior young women; thus, they lobbied to raise the age of consent. Their hope was that the threat of jail time would stop men from seducing nymphets. 

The WCTU campaign spread around the country, was attached to the woman’s suffrage movement, and due to that joint effort, by 1920 almost every state in North America raised the age of consent to sixteen or eighteen. 

However, there were two attempts, one in Kansas in 1889 and one in New York in 1890, to lower the age of consent to twelve and fourteen, respectively. But those attempts by legislators were fought against by feminists and obviously were unsuccessful.

Even though the age of consent in France is a mere fifteen-years-old, in 1977 over sixty prominent male and female French intellectuals from physicians to professors signed a petition against the land’s age of consent laws. The essential argument of the group was that as long as sex between an adult and someone under the age of fifteen was consensual and does not include violence, money, or any form of prostitution, then it should be legalized. The group could not understand how it was legal to distribute birth control pills to thirteen-year-old girls in France, but it was illegal for those same girls to have sex [with older men].

In addition, Alan Dershowitz, the (in)famous attorney and former Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, opined in a 1997 Los Angeles Times op-ed piece that "Statutory Rape IS an Outdated Concept". Dershowitz wrote:

If a 16-year-old can have an abortion, she should be able to have sex.

According to the National Survey of Family Growth, almost 60% of the women shared that they had sex while they were nymphets.

"[...] very few statutory rape charges actually are brought. They laws remain on the books, poised to be used selectively in certain kinds of high visibility cases."

"[For example] Michael Kennedy [...] had an affair with his children's babysitter, who is now a 19-year-old college student. There is no hard evidence that there was a sexual encounter between Kennedy and the babysitter before her 16th birthday [...] [Thus] there is no criminal case of statutory rape [...]"

"In the absence of physical evidence-such as pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease-a charge of statutory rape generally requires testimony by the victim. But since the sex was consensual, it is rare [...] (if the sex was not consensual [...] it is ordinary rape rather than statutory rape). Thus 99% of cases of statutory rape are not prosecuted.

"[...] there must be criminal sanctions against sex with very young children, but it is doubtful whether such sanctions should apply to teenagers [...] since voluntary sex is so common in their age group"

"[...] the age of consent should be lowered. It certainly should not be as high as 17 or 16. Reasonable people can disagree over whether is should be as low as 14. Fifteen would seem like an appropriate compromise."

[...] the Supreme Court's recognition of a young woman's rights to choose abortion-without interference from her parents or the state-suggests a degree of autonomy that seems inconsistent with making it a felony to have sex with a mature, consenting 16-year-old.
