Junot Diaz's Nymphet and Henry Miller Fan

On the Uptown 4, I stumbled upon a connection between Henry Miller's Sexus, Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and a nymphet in an age-discrepant relationship.

In Diaz's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Ana Obregon is: "[...] a pretty loudmouthed gordita who read Henry Miller [e.g. Sexus] while she should have been learning to wrestle logic problems."

13-year-old Ana was introduced to Henry Miller by her 24-year-old boyfriend before he left the east coast to join the military.

"He used to read passages to her all the time: That made me so hot," she said.

Famous Ephebophile: James Wood

The Daily Mail reported that 66-year-old Academy Award nominated actor James Wood has a new young woman. She is 20-year-old Kristen Bauguess. Surprisingly, the media is not concentrating on their age difference. Kristen's recent legal woes seem to be more titillating. On June 8th she was arrested for possession of marijuana and a controlled substance, speeding, failure to register an automobile and switching licence tags to mislead.

James recently broke off his relationship with Ashley Madison after a seven year relationship. James and Ashley starting dating when Ashley was 19 and James was 59.

MY FATHER THE HERO (1994): 14-year-old Teen Katherine Heigl in a Thong

Here's the IMDb plot summary for My Father the Hero (1994):
A teenage girl on vacation in the Bahamas with her divorced father tries to impress a potential boyfriend by saying that her father is actually her lover.

In the film, which was adapted from, Mon père, ce héros (1991), 14-year-old Nicole (Katherine Heigl) has an insatiable desire for the older men at a Bahamian resort. In an effort to attain the affection of the ephebophiles, Nicole attempts to make them jealous by pretending that her approximately 45-year-old father is her lover.

When questioned about the age of her travel partner, Nicole replied: "He's not that old. Besides, I like older men."

If the plot was not shocking enough, the 14-year-old Heigl appeared in the film in a very revealing white thong, which unsurprisingly caused a backlash in the media.

For example, Chris Hewitt wrote in his review of the film for the Boca Raton: The News that the film:
[...] stars a 14-year-old girl whose body we are asked to ogle and admire. And its main premise is how funny it would be if she convinced vacationers at a Bahaman resort that the beefy, 45-ish man she's traveling with is her lover, when all the time we know it's worse: The man she says is her lover is really her father.

Lastly, almost 30 years after My Father the Hero was filmed, it's not uncommon to see teens in (cheeky) thongs on TikTok.

Dostoyevsky's Pavel Pavlovich: The Eternal Ephebophile

I wrote on my writer's blog about what the award winning non-fiction writer Rich Cohen wrote in a Vanity Fair article about his effort to ghost write a book about Theodore Forstmann.

Cohen wrote: "Writing a nonfiction story is like cracking a safe. It seems impossible at the beginning, but once your're in, you're in."

And I mentioned in The Allure of Nymphets that once I started writing the book, I was inundated with examples of age-discrepant relationships - often by serendipity. I'm still finding examples, almost on a daily basis, which is why I'm going to include at least 50 new pages in the second edition.

One such occurrence took place recently while I was in Brooklyn attending a gathering for a newly retired colleague. I decided to give him a copy of The Allure of Nymphets as a retirement present. (By the way, someone at the gathering called my book "dirty".) While we were discussing the book, I told him that I could literally feel and sense when some media would have an age-discrepant theme.

Consequently, after a sneaked away from the gathering, I continued reading Dostoyevsky's The Eternal Husband on the subway, and to my amazement, the novella contained Pavel Pavlovich Trusotsky, a middle-aged man who aspired to marry 15-year-old Nadia.

This is how the 49-years-old described the nymphet Nadia:

Nadia was better than all her sisters - a small brunette with the air of a wild thing and the boldness of a nihilist; a thievish little demon with fiery eyes, a lovely, though often wicked, smile, amazing lips and teeth, slim, slender, with a nascent thought in the ardent expression of her face, at the same time still quite childish. Her fifteen years spoke in her every step, every word. It turned out later that Pavel Pavlovich had actually seen her for the first time with an oilcloth book bag in her hand, but now she no longer carried it.

However, Pavel Pavlovich Trusotsky made a seduction faux pas, which reduced his chances of marrying Nadia.

Lastly, the age-of-consent in Russia was lowered to 14 in 1988, but returned to 16 in 2003.

E.R. Frank's FRICTION: Rumors of a Middle-School Student and Her Teacher

In E.R. Frank's Friction, 14-year-old Stacy informs 13-year-old Alex and some of their middle-school classmates that Simon, their science teacher and soccer coach, likes Alex, which takes on significant meaning after Simon's hand accidentally brushes Alex's, "[...] little, but not a bad shape," breast in school, which left Alex's chest, "[...] warm and soft [...]"

And after Alex accidentally sees Simon's penis, "[...] his rain-slicked wet thing above a jiggling sack of skin, and a nest of brown hair. Everything." on a camping trip, Alex couldn't get her science teacher's, "[...] thick-looking and sluggy [...]" thing out of her head.

After Stacy continues to spread the rumor that Simon is attracted to Alex, Tim, a middle-school classmate, informs a bewildered Alex that, "Older men like younger women [...] Everybody knows it, Alex. Come on." Subsequently, Alex begins to think that maybe she likes her science teacher as well. She said:

"What if that slow, sliding feeling I've been getting lately is because I like him? Most of me knows it can't be, but then why am I suddenly restless sometimes, in the middle of the night or at school, or even on the soccer field? Why do I want to feel something light, maybe on the arm or the lips, and how come, even though I think it was an accident that time Simon touched my chest, I can't get it out of my mind?"

But after Stacy's doctor suspects that the middle-school student has been sexually active, she accuses Simon, her science teacher slash soccer coach, but incest may be the more likely source of the nymphet's sexual experience(s).

Publishers Weekly wrote of Friction: "Sure to spark heated discussions, this provocative novel is a reminder that words spoken carelessly can have lasting, painful repercussions. Ages 12-up."

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: English Teacher Rapes Student?

I wrote in The Allure of Nymphets about how in the first novel of the Pretty Little Liars series, two high school sophomores: "[...] slowly pulled up the hems of their sky-high minis and revealed their panties [...]" to a middle-aged man who was having a drink near them at the mall.

The Pretty Little Liars television series is just as revealing. For example, most teen shows that contain student-teacher affairs last one or two episodes, but the student-teacher affair between Mr. Fitz, the high school English teacher, and Aria, his sophomore student, lasted over three seasons.

In the clip below from the ABC Family show, Aria daydreams that someone exposed her affair with her English teacher to the principal of her Rosewood, Pennsylvania high school.

The scene is dramatized, because not once during the previous seasons did Mr. Fitz fear that he would go to jail for statutory rape. Why? Because the age-of-consent in Pennsylvania is 16. Thus, Mr. Fitz's only concern was that he would lose his job for making out with his student in his classroom, in his car and in his apartment.

Famous Ephebophile: Pablo Escobar

Maria Victoria and Pablo Escobar

Interestingly, we got this photo of Pablo Escobar and Maria Victoria from The Paris Review's Instagram page. Subsequently, we learned that in 1976, the 26-year-old famous Colombian drug lord married Maria Victoria when she was 15-years-old. The age-gap couple had two children.

STOP THE BITCH CAMPAIGN (2001): "We Are Only High School Girls [Teen Prostitutes]"

Stop the Bitch Campaign (2001) is about middle-aged Kuni, who has a love/hate relationship with Japanese nymphet prostitutes. Kuni has an intense attraction to schoolgirl prostitutes (i.e., enjo kosai), but he fears that their behavior is harming Japanese society; therefore, he sets out to stop their immoral behavior by, ironically, having violent and humiliating sex with them without paying.

We found the logic used by the Japanese high school prostitutes to justify their part-time jobs intriguing:
"Having sex for money or not, it is our own business."
"Yes, you are right."
"We are not professional prostitutes."
"We are only high school girls."
Their logic has feminist overtonesCorrectly, Kuni didn't agree with their faulty logic, but he went about rectifying the situation incorrectly.

Young Sex for Sale in Japan (2017)

[Update] The Stop the Bitch Campaign schoolgirls sitting in the cafe before "work" reminded of Stacy Dooley's BBC documentary Young Sex for Sale in Japan (2017) where Japanese schoolgirls work in JK cafes (i.e., Schoolgirl cafes) in JK alley where, Monday through Sunday, teenage girls in school uniforms solicit men to hold hands, go for walks, take naps on their young laps, and/or etc.
