GLAMOROUS DISASTERS: A Fifth Avenue Teen “Porno Druggie Queen”

Here’s part of Amazon’s synopsis for Eliot Schrefer’s Glamorous Disasters (Simon & Schuster, 2006)

Noah rose from humble beginnings and [...] got himself through Princeton. Now staggering under the weight of massive student loans and dazzled by life in the big city, Noah enters the rarefied field of SAT tutoring in Manhattan, working one-on-one with the spoiled, gorgeous children of the American aristocracy.

He takes on the considerable academic challenges that are Dylan Thayer [...] and his waifish sister, Tuscany. [...] Tuscany is avidly pursuing her own downfall via drugs and relationships with men more than twice her age.

[...] Glamorous Disasters is an incisive portrayal of a small and privileged world, a cautionary tale written by a Harvard grad who was once an SAT tutor himself -- an outsider who became a magnificently observant insider.

That’s correct. Schrefer’s a New York City based 2001 Harvard alumnus and former SAT tutor. Autofiction?

In terms of Tuscany’s drug use, the reader learned from Dylan that Tuscany used to steal pills from their mother - Dr.  Susan Thayer, the pediatrician. Dylan, “I mean, Tuscany and me [sic] used to go into my mom’s office and her bedroom all the time and steal her shit.” 17-year-old Dylan smiles crookedly. “She has all this crazy shit.”

However, Dylan did not say exactly when 15-year-old Tuscany started stealing her mother’s (prescription) drugs.

Tuscany, “a fifteen-year-old beauty”, was expelled from Moore-Pike Girls Academy, which some referred to as “Whore-Like Girls Academy”. Why was Tuscany expelled? She sexted her teen nudes, and she was found with a number of tabs of Xanax. Consequently, Noah and his  “Hamptons-tan” was hired to prepare Tuscany for the ISEE boarding school exam.

For their first tutoring session, Tuscany wore “tiny purple pants'' that didn’t “[...] quite make it to the top of her exposed hipbones.” “The majority of her shirts sit on only one shoulder, and her pants all require thong underwear.”

Tuscany beckoned Noah into her bedroom while she played with a strand of her “white-blond” hair - twisting “it around an orange, fake-baked finger.” (i.e., an indicator of interest).

In a bit of age-gap relationship foreshadowing, Tuscany displayed a poster of Josh Hartnett. The actor was over her bedroom desk and encased in an “ornately gilt eighteenth century frame”. Before the tutoring began, Tuscany shared with 25-year-old Noah that her boyfriend was “so much older”:

“My boyfriend is so much older than you.”

“My mom thinks I should hang out with guys my own age.”

“[...] But guys my age are so dumb.”

And before offering Noah one, Tuscany placed a cigarette between her lips, which her mother allowed, because, as Tuscany stated, “[...] She knows I’d be eating if I wasn't smoking.” Connectedly, a pillow placed in the center of Tuscany's bed read: “Boys Like Girls Who Look Neat - When in Doubt, Just Don’t Eat!”

On the way to the next tutoring session, Noah spied Tuscany on 86th street. Tuscany and Monica,  Tuscany’s “Really tall, really skinny” friend, were observing a Victoria’s Secret “pink teddy on a waxy pale mannequin”. It appeared to Noah that Tuscany was: “[...] recounting something that recently happened to her, probably involving a boy, or [more likely] a man.”

An hour later, Noah entered Tuscany’s cigarette smoke filled bedroom where “at the sight of her swaying hips”, Noah was “overtaken by a sudden burst of nerves.” And Tuscany shared with Noah, “I’m grounded again.” Why? “This man,” she replies. “My mom is crazy.” Thus, it appears that Tuscany was grounded for participating in some salacious activity with a man whom Tuscany described as, “[...] pretty nice. And loaded.” Unsurprisingly, Tuscany opined that her mother was “crazy” for disciplining her for having an age-gap affair

And where did 15-year-old Tuscany meet men? “At a bar, a club.” “Sometimes” the men would buy Tuscany drinks, but she preferred to keep her options open.

During a subsequent tutoring session, Tuscany wore: “[...] denim shorts that have been cut so high that the white cotton pockets hang to midthigh.” And a “tiny pink “Wild Girls” T-shirt”. Noah surmised that Tuscany was: “[...] probably planning her next date with an older man [...]”

Noah described Tuscany as a “hot girl in tiny shorts” ; thus, it was his “[...] job to look at her as little as possible.” But admittedly, it took “[...] resolve to keep his gaze averted.”

During the tutoring session, Noah asked Tuscany about It’s All You - Tuscany’s glossy teen fashion magazine. Here’s the headline on page 8 with Tuscany Thayer’s byline: “Hewitt Hos and Nightingale Nymphos: The Sluttiest Manhattan Schools Exposed”

And what did Roberto, Noah’s Albanian roommate, exclaim when he saw Tuscany on the cover of It’s All You?

“Wow,” Roberto says libidinously

“This bitch is hot,” Roberto adds. “Seriously, Noah, you have to let me meet her.”

“No,” Noah says, his eyes flashing. “Absolutely not.”

“You’ve got to be shittin’ me. Why not [...]?”

“She’s a kid. Stop it.”

However, that night Noah was “alarmed by his [own] flicker of attraction” to Tuscany whom reminded Noah of his age-gap tutor-tutee attraction to Monroe.

After Monroe he promised himself never to be drawn to another student. He stuffs It’s All About You under his mattress.

He thought he had banished Monroe from his mind, thought he had healed, but suddenly he feels the shame and guilt afresh. The depth of his feelings for her was inappropriate, he knows. His intense affection led him to consider doing things he should never have done, for which he can’t forgive himself. He distrusts his own feelings toward Tuscany, second-guesses himself: surely he isn’t repeating history, allowing attraction to distort his sense of duty?

Do you remember Monica, Tuscany’s “really tall, [and] really skinny” friend? Well, Cameron, another tutee, shared with Noah, “Well, they’re totally not friends anymore.” Why? Tuscany disappeared with Monica’s “totally hot doorman”.

“Monica has this totally hot doorman. Like, a little like Colin Farrel. And this one night Tuscany goes to Monica’s but, well, the doormen call up from the desk to say that she arrived, but she never makes it to Monica’s apartment”

“Whatever, I’m not going to say what I think, I’m sure she’s totally nice, but my friends say she’s a slut.”

Eventually, instead of going to boarding school, Tuscany: “[...] got into Choate, began the spring semester, and was removed from classes three days in [...]” Consequently, Noah was upgraded from tutor to teacher with teaching being done between Tuscany’s riding, ballet and piano lessons.

After Noah became Tuscany’s teacher, Roberto suggested that Noah have a student-teacher sexual affair with Tuscany, whom Roberto referred to as “the bitch from the magazine”. But Noah replied, “She’s my student, Rob. And she’s fifteen. That’s not going to happen.”

However, Roberto persisted, “Just do things, don’t worry about what’s gonna happen, you know?” And Roberto suggested that Noah stick his hands in Tuscany’s pants or as a last resort, Roberto suggested that Noah kiss his student.

On the first (home) school day, Noah: “[...] was nervous about entering the bedroom of a sleeping hot fifteen-year-old.” However, Dr. Thayer had Agnès, Tuscany’s assistant, prepare the dining table as Dr. Thayer deemed that it was “improper” for Noah to spend all his time in Tuscany’s bedroom.

Tuscany attended their first class: “[...] wearing a clubbing shirt emblazoned with a sequined martini glass, the neckline dipping to the tops of her breasts.” And “skin-tight denim”. Why? Per the narrator, Tuscany “[...] draws focus to herself whenever she can.” Consequently, Noah reprimanded himself: “[...] stop looking at the slender fingers playing with her bra strap, the butterfly wings of her breastbone.”

Later, Noah learned from Dr. Thayer that Tuscany had dated “forty-year-olds”, but Dr. Thayer didn’t “think” that Tuscany was still dating older men; however, Dylan referred to his sister as the “porno druggie queen”.

At Pangaea’s, a Manhattan night club, while Noah was at the bar, Dylan entered with an entourage:

Two are long-haired and handsome [...] Upper East Side twentysomething aristocracy; the other is an eyebrow-pierced Asian kid about Dylan’s age.

Noah learned from an aristocrat that Tuscany patronized Pangaea “all the time” - with the aristocrat. And, to Dylan’s dismay, Noah learned that Tuscany was the aggressor in the age-gap affair with aristocracy.

“Hey, Dylan,” Roberto asks, “where’s your sister tonight?”
“My sister? She’s like fifteen. She’s at home.”
“Come on, Dylan,” an aristocrat says. “You know she’s here all the time.”
“Yeah,” says the other aristocrat to the first. “Here with you!”
“That had better not happen ever again, asshole.” Dylan says darkly. “Don’t ever let me hear about you touching her.”
“Dylan, Dylan.” The aristocrat over enunciates, bathing the group in beer vapor. “Don’t you remember? Maybe you were too coked up. She was touching me.”

The Asian kid shared some more details about Tuscany, Pangaea and men. The Asian kid pointed out a man “thirty-five, one hand against his belly and the other holding an unlit cigar” whom Tuscany had been “with for a while”.

Interestingly, the Asian kid opined that Tuscany was too hot, and he related that Tuscany knew that there was a positive correlation between being skinny, being hot and being the center of attention at Pangaea. Consequently, she got “eaten alive” before turning eighteen due to men offering her drinks and drugs in exchange for teen sex.

And it was the Asian kid who revealed to Noah why Tuscany was expelled from prep school.

Asian kid: “What were you tutoring her for, the SAT already?”

Noah: No, no, the ISEE. She wanted to go to boarding school.”

Asian kid: “Oh right. I forgot, she got busted for sending naked pictures to some guy and having like forty bajillion tabs of Xanax.”

Later in the novel, Noah chaperoned Tuscany and Octavia, Tuscany’s teen friend, on a field trip to France. Octavia carried herself with a “voluptuous sense of sexual possibility”. On the Air France flight, 15-year-old Tuscany imbibed a miniature bottle of wine. And after landing, Tuscany and Octavia “developed an instant crush on Benoît” - the French tour guide and father of two.

After returning to Tuscany’s Fifth Avenue bedroom, for being such a credible chaperone, Tuscany gifted her teacher:

A pink oxford. The fabric is sail-thick, as if made from the very stuff of yachts. The sleeves can be rolled up when watching a regatta or worn down for cocktails on the lawn.

While changing into the pink oxford in Tuscany’s bathroom, Noah’s “thoughts leap to horrible places” like the “bliss he would feel should he have ducked into the bathroom after having slept with Tuscany.”

After emerging from the bathroom, Tuscany, braless and with her lips inches away from her teacher’s, seductively adjusted the pink oxford. Tuscany’s young fingers skated across her teacher’s pectorals and lingered on his chest. Ergo, Noah was tempted to embrace his student, but he opined that Tuscany did not need another man “holding her”. And Noah was not like Roberto whom did not fear the potential consequences of having an age-gap affair with a 15-year-old.

Later, at a dinner party for Mr. Thayer, Tuscany was dressed “like a fairy-tale princess” in a “red silken dress, ribbed in a darker red” - crisscrossed in the front and tied low in the back. Consequently, a group of men in business suits with names like “Solomon X, X Lidden III, Powel X, Peter X Stockton, and a half dozen Andrews” formed an “admiring circle” around the nymphet where Tuscany received “admiring glances”.

After Octavia arrived “wearing a very short dress” “with lips glossed and erotically parted”, the two nymphets faced “down unsuspecting thirty-year-old bachelors are in arm, giggling and laying their hands on the unwary men.”

In the end, Olena, Noah’s Albanian immigrant tutee, fittingly said, “Perhaps we have fallen into a type. Student and teacher fall in love. It happens all the time, no?”

Louis C.K.'s I LOVE YOU, DADDY: Teen Girls with "Boners" for Older Dudes | Old\Young

This is IMDb's plot summary of Louis C.K.'s I Love You, Daddy (2017):

"When a successful television writer's [Glen (Louis C.K.)] daughter [China (Chloë Grace Moretz)] becomes the interest of an aging filmmaker [Leslie Goodwin (John Malkovich)] with an appalling past, he becomes worried about how to handle the situation."

Wikipedia elaborated:

"C.K. plays television writer and producer Glen Topher, who becomes disconcerted after his teenage daughter is seduced by a much older film director. The film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2017. Initially scheduled to be released in the United States on November 17, 2017 by The Orchard, the film was dropped following sexual misconduct accusations made against C.K. a week prior to the intended debut."

[Note: Although I Love You, Daddy (2017) was never released, we were able to do a review after a critic shared his or her copy.]

Towards the beginning of the film, Maggie (Pamela Adlon) complimented China on her tan. China developed that tan while on her senior year of high school spring break where she participated in "Mother May I" - a (teen) sex game:

Maggie: "Oh my God! Look at you. You got so fucking tanned. Fuck off! Baby. It's March in New York, and you look like a Schvartze came all over you."
China: "What's a Schvartze?"
Glen: "It's Jewish for n_gger."
Maggie: "No it's not. Yes it is. But not in a bad way."

Later, Grace (Rose Byrne) threw a party at her house in The Hamptons for the famous writer and director - Leslie Goodwin (John Malkovich). Grace admitted, "I like to throw him these parties so he can scam on all the young girls [...] He loves it. He's an old perv."

Upon entering the party, the following conversation took place between China, China's dad, and China's schoolmate - Zasha (Ebonee Noel).

Glen: "Oh my God."
China: "What?"
Glen: "That's Leslie Goodwin. I've wanted to meet him my whole life."
China: "Eww, wasn't he a child molester?"
Zasha: "Allegedly."
Glen: "That's just a rumor."
China: "Dad. He's a child molester."
Glen: "You don't know that China. That's just a story."
China: "Ah. God, he's gross."
Zasha"Yeah, but he's sexy."
China: "Zash, come on."
Glen: "You know China, you shouldn't say things like that about a person you don't know - who you just heard rumors about."
China: "OK, well. He also dates really young women. And he's, what, like 80-years-old?"
Glen: "He's a great artist. Probably the best writer filmmaker in the last 30 years or more."

Subsequently, Leslie sparked up an engaging conversation on feminism with China by asking her what type of feminism she followed. And China appeared to be smitten when Leslie asked, "What do you think?" Eventually China shared, "I feel really weird talking to you [...] and I don't like you [...] It's what I've heard about you."

Leslie replied, "OK, well look, I haven't heard anything about you - for instance. I can only go by what I see in front of me - in meeting you. In my experience, that's the best thing to go by. And as far as I can see, you seem like a boorish and rude person with no boundaries. In other words, I think you're terrific. And if I read something terrible about you later, I won't believe it."
*****
Glen was supposed to have lunch with his idol Leslie, but Glen was disappointed after Leslie's office called and canceled. But Glen was shocked that his daughter knew why Leslie canceled.

China: "Oh well, he's going to Europe tonight [...] I was just with him."
Glen: "You were with Leslie Goodwin?
China: "Yeah. Isn't that weird."
Ralph (Charlie Day): "Well, it's not that weird. He likes young girls."
China: "Oh. Yes. He. Does."
Glen: "Why were you with Leslie Goodwin?"
China: "I was shopping for shorts at Barneys, and there he was [...] he goes there to, get this, to look at young girls."

In a flashback to Barneys, Leslie shared with China, "Oh, I actually come her quite often, because this is where all of Manhattan's elite girls come, and I like looking at them."
China: "You like looking at young girls?"
Leslie: "Sure, who doesn't. I mean if you had a choice between looking at a pretty girl your age or a retired bus driver, who would you choose?"

Leslie confessed to China that he was different than the other nympholepts who go to Barneys to leer at nymphets. Leslie, "[...] I'm interested in the whole person. It's not just about your perfect body, it's about where you are in this journey of life and humanity."

Subsequently, Leslie encouraged China to try on a Barneys bikini before they went to Madison Square Park where Leslie purchased and distributed ice cream to the park-goers.  Afterwards, China shared with her dad, "God, it was the best fucking time I have had in years."

Later, Glen found out that China had plans to go to Paris with Leslie. Despite Glen's objections, "You're a minor! And you're 17!", China went to Paris on a private jet with Leslie. (Note: Actually, the age-of-consent in New York is a 17.)

After her birthday party that was held in Central Park, China went to Leslie's place to inform him, "Well, I'm officially 18. No longer a minor." (Once again, the age-of-consent in New York is 17.) After China straddled Leslie, she repeated, "I'm 18. I'm 18, and you're 68. And my friends. My friends think I'm crazy. They go, "China!" And I'm like, "Yeah, I know. He's 68. That's how long it takes to make a good man."

In the end, Glen told China that he had forbidden her from seeing Leslie. After a heated talk, Glen asked his daughter, "What about Leslie?" China chuckled and replied, "That's none of your business Glen," and left the house.

When Zasha arrived to pick up some things for China, Leslie reiterated to Zasha that he didn't want China to have a relationship with Leslie, because Leslie's is a pervert.

Zasha replied, "China's the real pervert here."
Glen: "China's a pervert?"
Zasha: "Yeah, she has such a boner for Leslie. Hilarious. That's always been our thing. She had a teacher in 9th grade who she tried to get to come on to her. Mr. Hoffman [...] Older dudes are sexy."

Lastly, Zasha shared with China's dad: "I used to have a boner for you throughout my teens. It's so normal [...] Who cares how old you are and who you are? [...] I had a thing for you when I was 14. So what?"

The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw gave I Love You, Daddy four stars and opined that Louis C.K.'s film: "[...] contrives to be a very funny and recklessly provocative homage to Woody Allen, channelling his masterpiece Manhattan and brilliantly finding a fictional way to tackle his personal reputation head-on."

Levine's "Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children From Sex"

Judith Levine begins her introduction to Harmful to Minors by writing:

In America today, it is nearly impossible to publish a book that says children and teenagers can have sexual pleasure and be safe too.

And she writes that only 25 years ago it would have been easy to get a book published that deals with the sexuality of nymphets:

This book, at bottom, is about fear, America's fears about child sexuality are both peculiarly contemporary (I am certain I would not have had the same troubles twenty-five years ago) [...] Harmful to Minors recounts how that fear got its claws into America in the late twentieth century and how [...] it now dominates the ways we think and act about children's sexuality.

Levine writes that the fear about child sexuality stems from two sources: feminists and the christian religious Right:

The political articulation of these fears in the late twentieth century came from two disparate sources.

1. One one side were feminists, whose movement exposed widespread rape and domestic sexual violence against women and children and initiated a new body of law (e.g., age of consent) that would punish the perpetrator and cease to blame the victim.

2. From the other side, the religious Right brought to sexual politics the belief that women and children need special protection because they are "naturally" averse to sex of any kind.

Levine writes that approximately 50% of nymphets between fifteen and nineteen are sexually active. And that: "In the 1950s, plenty of teens had sex, but it wasn't considered troublesome because it wasn't premarital: in that decade, America had the highest rate of teen marriage in the Western world." Currently, approximately 90% of heterosexual Americans have sexual intercourse before marriage.

Levine writes that experts give a variety of reasons for teen sex but fail to mention that teens have sex because, simply, sex feels good:

In almost every article or broadcast, experts are called in to catalogue the reasons that teens have sex, all of them bad: Their peers pressure them or pedophiles manipulate them; they drink or drug too much, listen to rap, or download porn; they are under too much pressure or aren't challenged enough; they are abused or abusive or feel immortal or suicidal; they're rich and spoiled or poor and demoralized, raised too strictly or too permissively; they are ignorant or oversophisticated.

Squeamish or ignorant about facts, parents appear to accept the pundits' worst conjectures about their children's sexual motives. It's as if they cannot imagine that their kids seek sex for the same reasons they do: They like or love the person they are having it with. It gives them a sense of beauty, worthiness, happiness, or power. And it feels good.

Levine goes on to reiterate that the notion that teen sex is perilous is relatively new:

Indeed, the concept that sex poses an almost existential peril to children, that it robs them of their very childhood, was born only about 150 years ago.

According to the influential French historian Philippe Ariès, European societies before the eighteenth century did not recognize what we now call childhood, defined as a long period of dependency and protection lasting into physical and social maturity.

Levine even opines that protecting minors from sex is harmful:

Harmful to Minors launches from two negatives: sex is not ipso facto harmful to minors; and America's drive to protect kids from sex is protecting them from nothing. Instead, often it is harming them. [...] adults owe children not only protection and a schooling in safety but also the entitlement to pleasure.

At almost 300 pages, Harmful to Minors' is full of interesting facts and anecdotes. And we're going to write a separate post on Chapter 4. Crimes of Passion, which is about age-gap relationships. But we'll end this post with some examples of nymphet sexuality:

1. Sherry Turkle of MIT shared: "A 13-year-old informs me that she prefers to do her sexual experimentation online. Her partners are usually the boys in her class at school. In person, she says, it is 'mostly grope-y.' Online, 'they need to talk more.'"

2. A major longitudinal study at UCLA found that 75% of kids had masturbated and/or had sex with another child before the age of six.

3. "Psychologists Sharon Lamb and Mary Coakley surveyed three hundred psychologically healthy Bryn Mawr students about their childhood sexual experiences. The young women wrote about thrilling games of porn star, prostitute, rape, and slave girl, all at ages in the single digits [...]"

4. Joan Rappaport led "Adolescent Issues", a series of discussions at a Manhattan private school where she gave her sixth-grade students the homework assignment: "Go home and find your clitorises."

5. "Flora masturbated at six or seven and had orgasms starting at ten or eleven. When she was that age, a thirteen-year-old friend joined her. 'We would lay around and take off our clothes,' Flora recalled [...] We even made dildos out of toilet paper and Vaseline.' She recounted the story without shame or regret: in fact, she spoke with glee."

Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children From Sex is the winner of the 2002 Los Angeles Times Book Prize.

Piper Weiss' YOU ALL GROW UP AND LEAVE ME: A Manhattan Private School Teen Obsessed with Men

In her New York Post piece, Piper Weiss summed up the story of Gary Wilensky well:

[56-year-old] Gary Wilensky was a popular tennis coach on the Manhattan prep-school circuit, well-liked by students and parents alike. Piper Weiss was a [14-year-old] student at Chapin, the all-girls private school on the Upper East Side. She was taking private lessons from Wilensky in 1993 when he attacked one of his students [17-year-old Jennifer Rhodes] in a failed kidnapping attempt and subsequently killed himself in a scandal that rocked the private-school world. In her new memoir, “You All Grow Up and Leave Me” [...] Weiss writes about the abduction and its aftermath.

But Weiss' memoir adds some intriguing and relevant details, one of which is hinted at in the subtitle: "A Memoir of Teenage Obsession".

Weiss confessed in her memoir that not only was she obsessed with Wilensky, she was jealous of Rhodes:

I wanted it so much when he was alive, but even more now that he is dead. I know I'm not supposed to think this. I know he did a bad thing. There was a cabin with chains inside it. [...] I knew they had to do with sex or violence or both [...] He picked her and now she matters. Everyone wants to know what she has to say and how she feels because he chose her. She matters and I do not.

Weiss raised an issue that was similarly related in Anne Rice's Belinda. Weiss wrote:

The private in private school means just that. It is a class distinction. Ours is the world others want to expose, and it must be closely guarded. [...] Privilege is based on secrecy. Our parents know what others want to know, and so do we. Privilege comes with a certain trust that if broken results in the loss of such privilege [...]

However, like Emily Jane Fox, who shared in Born Trump: Inside America's First Family, that Ivanka Trump and her 8th grade classmate flashed a hot dog vendor from the Chapin's third floor window, Weiss shared some secrets from the Manhattan private school world:

In the eighth grade [...] We took Latin and algebra. We read Romeo and Juliet. We drew on our legs [...] and cupped the soft underside of another girl's breast in the locker room.

Weiss wrote about her 9th grade science teacher. She shared that she was advised to flirt with him for a better grade, because it was easy if he deemed a private school coed to be a "sexual creature":

He has difficulty looking students in the eye, I think, out of fear that his thoughts might be heard. The year has just begun and it is already clear whom he favors - the girl with the see-through skin [...] When she speaks in class, he flares up with an allergic crush. Anything she says is very good

Everybody knows he has pets and they are an undeniable type - long-limbed girls with billowing horsetail hair who are soft-spoken [...] When I found out he was my teacher this year, a junior told me to flirt with him for a better grade. It is believed to be that easy if you are a sexual creature in his eyes [...]

Piper Weiss
Just like the Manhattan prep school coeds in Nick McDonell's national bestselling novel Twelve, Weiss swallowed pills as a teen:

My mother's bottle of Valium, for when she flies, is in a cosmetic bag underneath their bathroom sink. (I swallowed three.)

All through my teen and twenties I would scavenge her room when she was away, rifling through cabinets for old prescriptions, jewelry boxes for stale weed [...]

Weiss got the part in a TV movie, but her mother wouldn't let her act, because:

It was a movie about a man who loves a little girl. That sounded okay, I told her, because some men are nice and some little girls are wise and, I imagined, sometimes they could be friends.

Apparently, one of the popular girls on the all-girl private high school campus had a "breast-first swagger" and Weiss shared a sexually charged rumor about her that was based on her short stature:

There was a rumor among certain private school boys that I give blow jobs standing up.

As if the private school kilts aren't short enough, Weiss and her classmates had a habit of making them shorter:

Bianca and I are halfway to school and our rolled-up skirts are riding up our waists. [...] The teacher's ruler to our kilt hems, the assessments of our clothing as "too short" and "too tight."

On a related note, Weiss wrote that her classmates opined that their young bodies were currency:

Our currency is our bodies. We have what others want, what they feel they deserve. [Consequently] [a]t school, we trade stories of being groped by strangers [...] [For example], [...] when a Rollerblader glided downstream along Lexington Avenue, stopping short to cup my chest [...]

Weiss shared that her first obsession with men began with Jim Morrison:

It was an obvious choice, an early teenage-cult follower move, spurred on by my newbie sexuality and Oliver Stone (i.e., The Doors (1991)).

This "obsession," as my mother calls it, began when I was twelve, before the movie came out, I swear. I saw the real Jim perform on a PBS documentary my dad was watching and bought the paperback biography of his life, which is better than the movie.

Weiss described giving a tip to Tony, a Serbian hairdresser, at European Hair Design:

The slick act of sliding a tip to someone else is so out of my league, small, breast-budded me presenting a secret gift to a full-bodied man, something he needs that I have.

We already wrote a post about the Agnès b. Lolita backpack.

Piper Weiss @ 13 | A Year Before Gary Wilensky

In the chapter titled "girl: x rated", Weiss described her teen voyeurism:

WHEN THE BOY IN THE WINDOW flicks his bedroom lights on and off, it means pay attention. [...] Then he puts down the blow-dryer, walks to the window holding himself with one hand. He waves with the other.

His is the only penis I've ever seen, and it appears to be half an arm's length [...] He is instructional in the way he touches himself - as if he's teaching a group of students the techniques of a sport. It's all about form, control, consistency.

I have seen this boy's most intimate body part countless times.

Subsequently, Weiss returned the favor:

I've stuffed a hot pink satin bra from my sister's drawer with balled-up tissues and tightened the leather strings on my suede hot pants. [...] Across the alleyway, the boy flicks his lights fast and furious. A silent applause.

Towards the end of the memoir, Weiss describes teens:

You are a walking fetish - a child in adult prosthetics.  You are a sensationalized news story. ("Shocking transformation: Underage teen sprouts sex organs.") [...] All around you, they purr and coo, they psst. Your body brings out the worst in them - fear for your safety, fear of their own perversions. You can read their minds.

We know from Slut: A Play and Guidebook for Combating Sexism and Sexual Violence that things happen between Manhattan private school girls and their doormen. Weiss described an encounter with her doorman:

Kilt rolled up at the waist, hair in a bun, frizz at my temples, homework half done and shoved in my book bag, I'm ready to go. I can feel it. [...] By the time I reach the lobby, one of the doormen, a young blue-eyed man with a goatee, who is too pretty [...] to look directly in the eyes, hands me the house phone.
"It's your mother."
"You forgot breakfast," she says.

Lastly, Weiss describes a scene with Wilensky that relates to the title of her memoir You All Grow Up and Leave Me :

"I won't leave you," I say. "I promise." His arms gather loosely around my back [...]
"I love you, Gary," I say, because it's different from We love you, Gary [...]
"I love you, too," he says.
And then I get out of his care like a girl who has just been kissed.
