Mena Suvari's THE GREAT PEACE: Teen Actress Sex with Hollywood Manager & Lighting Engineer

Previously, we wrote a post about Mena Suvari's role as Angela Hayes in American Beauty (1999). For example, in the Academy Awards winning film, Angela (Mena) shared with her best friend and high school classmate:

“Your dad's actually kinda cute. If he just worked out a little he'd be hot...Oh, come one. Like you've never sneaked a peak at him in his underwears. I bet he's got a big dick...If he builds up his chest and arms I would totally fuck him. I would suck his big fat dick and fuck him until his eyes rolled into the back of his head.”

Very interestingly, Julia Jacobs reported in the New York Times piece "‘The Dark Part of My Life’: 5 Takeaways From Mena Suvari’s Book" (July 27, 2021) that Suvari had a number of real-life age-gap relationships that she shared in her memoir The Great Peace:

“I was getting accustomed to being cast as the sexy one or the sex object,” Suvari writes in her memoir [...] It was art imitating life. I was fine with that; I wanted only to get done what needed to be done and escape back into my own little world.” [Emphasis added] 

At 16, she says that her Hollywood manager, who was in his mid-30s, had sex with her. She was young, vulnerable and desperate for affection, she writes.

It appears that Suvari's age-gap affair with her manager was consensual, but in hindsight, she appears to be implying that she was victimized, because she was "young, vulnerable and desperate for affection". 

The abusive relationship she describes in the most detail is with a man named Tyler, a lighting engineer she met at a rave when he was 26 and she was 17. The family she had grown up with had fractured, so Suvari surrendered to Tyler, she writes. Throughout their relationship, she said, he verbally abused her and forced her to participate in sex acts against her will. 

Here, Suvari is implying that she was victimized and would not have had an age-gap affair with the lighting engineer if she had not grown up in a fractured family. 

In the end, Suvari may not have taken any responsibility for her role in her age-gap affairs; however, she made it her responsibility to share details of those controversial affairs to sell books.
